TX Food Truck License Guide is an independent guide run by Clearline Labs. We are not the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) or any government agency, and we can't issue, speed up or guarantee a license. We are not an insurance agent or agency: we don't sell, solicit or negotiate insurance or give coverage advice. If we link to or refer you to a business, we may be paid a flat referral fee that does not depend on whether you buy anything.

Texas food trucks, county by county

The license is the same in every county. Since July 1, 2026 a DSHS MFV license covers you statewide, and a city or county can't ban a licensed vendor who follows other state and local laws (HSC 437B.051(b)). What still differs locally: fire codes, location rules and zoning (HSC 437B.101), and who comes out to inspect you. See local rules.

The table shows, for each county, the number of active sales tax outlets the Texas Comptroller classes as mobile food services (NAICS 722330), and how many of those permits were issued since October 22, 2025. These are sales tax permits, not DSHS licenses: some are caterers or carts, and some trucks report under another code. Statewide: 16,841 active, 6,332 new in 12 months.

The last column lists the local agencies DSHS has collaborative agreements with to inspect food trucks (list current as of Aug 17, 2026). If no state inspector is free, one of them may inspect you (DSHS). We matched each agency to its main county; some serve neighboring counties too.
